Preston Capes

Preston Capes includes Great Preston, West Preston or Preston the hill, and Little Preston or Wood Preston.
Mentioned in Conqueror's Survey.
Capes was added to name Preston in reigh of Hen. III, in memory of Hugh de Capes of Preston, to distinguish it from Preston Deanery near Northampton.
In Domesday prestetone, meaning Priests' Town, so called from the priory founded here by Hugh de Leycester.
Priory afterwards removed to Daventry.

Little Preston or Wood Preston - Wode Preston.
Manor House, now made into two cottages ---- by pond.
Ground of it called, Graves Piece.
One room was a chapel connected with Daventry Priory 1552.
There is in it a very good old oak stair-case.

(I wonder if the good old oak staircase is still there!)
