Village Voice - 8th January 2004
CHURCH SERVICES
This Sunday at Preston Capes church: Evensong at 6.00pm.
CHRISTMAS CROCKERY
Following the Christmas party last month, there are still some unclaimed plates and dishes in the village hall. If you think any of these may be yours, please give me a ring (01327-361656) so that I can arrange to get them back to you. (Please note that any items remaining unclaimed will probably next be seen on the village fete bric-a-brac stall!)
NEW YEARS EVE
Despite the bad weather, those who made it to the village hall (over forty of you!) enjoyed some entertaining darts and skittles matches, plus a lively disco. The darts tournament was won by Lydia Hancock (runner-up was Mike Eves), while Roger Elkin – despite some incapacitation! – was the winner of the skittles match (with Mark Hancock in second place). After the traditional singing of “Auld Lang Syne” at midnight, everyone enjoyed champagne and mince pies before heading for home.
CHEESE AND WINE PARTY
Continuing with the New Year festivities, the annual Cheese and Wine Party in aid of church funds will be held on Friday, 23rd January, in the village hall. If you would like tickets, please contact Bernard or Penelope Rapson on 01327-361380.
CHRISTMAS WREATHS
Although it is a little late in the day (and full details are in this month's parish magazine), I thought it should be mentioned in this column that the Christmas wreath workshop, which took place at the beginning of last month, raised over £750 for church funds.
