Village Voice - 15th January 2004

CHURCH SERVICES

This Sunday at Preston Capes church: Holy Communion at 9.30am.

WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

The first meeting of the year was an excellent talk by Andrew Kobus of Perfume by Design , our own village perfumier. The talk covered the range of different aromas involved in perfume-making, and how each fragrance, to be successful, could not comprise just one scent but had to shade from light, floral and woody notes. Members had the opportunity to smell some of the essential ingredients and express their opinion of them, and it was interesting how different scents could evoke different ideas from people. Some found oil of jasmine to smell of hyacinths, whilst others likened it to horses! Other essential oils brought back memories of perfumes used long ago. At the end of the meeting members were so intrigued that they would have been happy to listen for longer – a very rare event indeed.

The last of this year's darts matches takes place this week. Unfortunately, the team has been unable to repeat the success of last year's tournament where they narrowly missed going forward to the final play-offs. Hopefully, members will do better with skittles which begin this month.

Next month's meeting is a members' night, and an evening meal is planned to take place at the Romer Arms.

Don't forget that the PCC's cheese and wine party takes place next Friday evening (23rd January) in the village hall. For tickets, please contact Bernard or Penelope Rapson (01327-361380) as soon as possible.
