PARISH COUNCIL
A report on items of general interest from last week's parish council meeting.
Noticeboard for Little Preston - This should be available within the next two or three weeks, and residents will be consulted on possible locations.
Broadband Internet Access - Following the recent campaigns in Everdon, Fawsley and Farthingstone, only a dozen or so further registrations are required to reach our exchange trigger level. A notice will be distributed very shortly to all parishioners in an attempt to get these final few registrations.
Neighbourhood Watch - NW co-ordinator Mike Nightingale advised that he had been receiving a number of reports from the police regarding bogus waterboard officials requesting to read meters. He said that they seem extremely plausible and asked everyone to be on their guard. Information has also been received that there are travellers in the area offering driveway resurfacing, and these should also be avoided.
Mud on Roads - Councillors agreed that this was a historical and ongoing problem, with no apparent resolution. Villagers were urged to contact the police/highways authority on an individual basis to report any problems.
Livestock on Roads - There had been several instances of sheep on the road at the bottom of the hill on the Newnham road. The chairman agreed to contact those concerned.
Footpaths - Concern was expressed regarding the state of the footpath behind the cricket pitch which is being used by horse-riders. Footpath warden, Roger Elkin, confirmed that although this is officially a footpath (and not a bridleway), it can be used by horses with the permission of the landowner, but that he must repair any damage caused.
Speed Limits - The parish clerk had been informed that seventeen people had been caught by speed cameras in the village over the last six months. However, the speed camera safety team advise that this number is only four – and over the last twelve months. A further request will be made for the speed camera to be positioned on the Maidford/Charwelton road between 7.00 and 8.00am.
Regrouping of Village Signs - This has now been carried out.
Forthcoming Events Notices - The parish clerk advised that British Telecom are no longer allowing notices to be put up on their telegraph poles (any that are put up will be removed). Neighbourhood Watch notices are unaffected.
