PARISH COUNCIL
At last week's parish council meeting, the chairman welcomed County Council Gina Ogden and District Councillor David Griffin, and the following items were discussed:
Election of Chairman - Gavin Cowen and David Williams were unanimously re-elected as chairman and vice-chairman respectively.
Noticeboard for Little Preston - This has now been delivered, and residents will be asked their views on a suitable position.
Broadband Internet Access - The required trigger level of 100 registrations was reached a few days after the flyer was distributed.
Road Repairs - Parish council highways representative Mike Eves will be meeting with an individual from Atkins on 28th April to discuss required road repairs around the parish.
Sheep on Roads - The chairman agreed to contact those concerned.
Speed Limits - The parish council will be re-applying for the safety camera team to come to the village during the morning “rush hour” (this cannot be within three months of the previous visit).
Footpaths - Following the concerns raised at the previous meeting, footpaths warden Roger Elkin has advised that a Rights of Way officer from NCC has walked the path at the rear of the cricket pitch and did not feel that the surface had been badly damaged, and therefore no further action was required.
ACRE Best Kept Village Competition - It was agreed that Preston Capes would enter this competition.
Central Railway - David Griffin confirmed that the government has withdrawn its support for this venture, and it therefore looks extremely unlikely that it will go ahead.
Annual Parish Meeting – Thursday, 27th May - Items for discussion at this annual meeting will include the following: Rugby airport, highways, road signs, speed checks, local and EU elections, planning application procedures, broadband, parish precept and grass mowing. It is also hoped that our community beat officer will be able to attend. If any parishioner has any other topics they would like discussed, it would be helpful if these could be indicated to the chairman (or any other parish councillor) before the event.
