CHURCH SERVICES

This Sunday at Preston Capes church: Christingle Service at 6.00pm.

POPPY APPEAL

This year's collection on behalf of the Royal British Legion was once again carried out by Rosie Goodwin, who has asked me to let you all know that £176 was raised in the parish. Thank you to everyone who contributed.

W.I. COFFEE MORNING

Preston Capes WI will be holding a Christmas Coffee Morning this Saturday, 11th December. Come down to the village hall between 10.30am and noon and enjoy a glass of mulled wine, tea or coffee (included in the £1.50 entrance). As well as a stall of homemade “Christmas Goodies” – ideal for those last-minute gifts! – there will also be bric-a-brac and cake stalls.

CHRISTINGLE SERVICE

A candlelight Christingle service – for all the family - will be held at the church this Sunday (12th December) at 6.00pm, followed by mulled wine and mincepies. Please contact Heather Wilson (361667) or Amanda Giles (361225) if your children wish to make a Christingle on the previous day.

PARISH COUNCIL

This month's parish council meeting takes place next Thursday, 16th December, starting at 7.45pm in the village hall.

CHRISTMAS WREATHS

The workshop was very successful, and took place last Saturday, 4th December. The PCC wants to thank all those customers who ordered wreaths, and 87 were made. The chief designers and makers were again Iris King and Graham White, wonderfully supported by a large team that included four new members – Chris Farmer, Dawn Matthews, Sylvia Brookbank and Mike Delacoe. The lovely holly was generously provided by Mr. and Mrs. Crossan, Isobel Fountaine, Anabel Lewis-Bowen, David Brentnall and Elizabeth Dearns. The wreaths looked the perfection of Christmas, for any door so adorned.

The rest of the splendid team was made up of Heather Wilson, Sheila West, Rosemary Haynes, V Brassey, Meryl Scragg, Caroline Price, Jennifer Edwards, Rosemary Bowden, Jane Arblaster, Shirley Negal, Joan Hartop, Judy Craig, Matthew and Fiona Sparkes, Gareth Dyer, David Brentnall, Gordon Bird, and Claire and Gerard Hoare.

The PCC is very grateful to them for all their willing gift of time for holly-cutting, moss-gathering and mossing of rings, skilled making on the day, deliveries and general help. The result is a precious £783 raised for church funds, much pleasure for our buyers, and a happy project for twenty-five people – proving many hands make light work.

From the PCC, a Happy Christmas and sincere thank you to everyone involved.
