PARISH COUNCIL
A report on items of general interest from last week's parish council meeting.
Little Preston Noticeboard - This has now been installed, although some minor adjustments need to be made.
Water Supplies - The parish council has received a letter from Anglian Water, which confirms that they will be investigating the frequency of interruptions to the electricity supply (which affects the water pressure) and possible options to maintain supplies.
Highways and Footpaths - Councillor Eves reported that some work has been carried out by Atkins during the last week, particularly the Eydon road, and that he is continuing to request repairs to the Mantles Heath road. Atkins survey all the roads in the county once per year, and Preston Capes is due to be surveyed in March. It was agreed that it would be useful if the highways representative could attend. Regarding the continuing problem of mud on the Newnham road, he confirmed that he had sent an email to Atkins who had advised that it was not their responsibility, and suggesting that he contact NCC. They, too, had replied that it was not their responsibility and that the parish council should contact the police. However, when contacted, the police referred the parish council to NCC. It was agreed that a letter be sent to Atkins, NCC and the police (with a copy to Tim Boswell). It was confirmed that the hedge at Swan Farm along the Maidford/Charwelton road, which causes some sight problems at the crossroads, would be cut back by the end of the month.
Best Kept Village and Churchyard Competition - The parish council agreed not to enter this competition, as many of the marking categories are not relevant to our village.
Village Litter - It was felt that litter had increased generally in the village, but that the majority of this was caused by lack of care by the refuse collectors. The DDC refuse collection representative is to be asked to attend the next village general meeting.
