CHURCH SERVICES
This Sunday at Preston Capes church: Holy Communion at 8.00am. Please note that there will also be a service for All Saints/All Souls Day next Wednesday (2nd November) at 8.00pm in Charwelton chapel.
PARISH COUNCIL MEETINGS
At the recent parish council meeting, it was decided that future meetings will generally be held on Tuesdays (rather than Thursdays) – please see the village noticeboards or this column for exact dates.
HISTORIC CHURCHES SPONSORED RIDE
Due to the organiser taking a well-deserved holiday (and then having computer problems!), I am only now able to confirm that our walkers/cyclists – Marian Gee, Anabel Lewis-Bowen, David Brentnall (who did a marathon cycle ride!) and Judy Craig – raised over £470 in sponsorship, fifty percent of which goes to our church’s restoration fund. The parochial church council would like to thank them for their time and efforts, as well as those villagers who manned the church throughout the day – Heather Wilson, Steve Major, Sheila Bull, Sue Wilkinson, Rosemary Haynes, Sheila West, Elizabeth Dearns (and myself!).
W.I. COFFEE MORNING
Preston Capes WI will be holding another of their very popular Coffee Mornings and Cake Sale this Saturday (29th October). From 10.30am to noon at the village hall, this is the chance to enjoy a convivial cup of coffee with friends and neighbours. As well as delicious cakes, there will also be the opportunity to purchase Christmas cards/wrapping paper and general greetings cards. Admission is free (refreshments 50p).
AND THEY’RE OFF!
The village hall committee’s race night takes place this Saturday (29th October). Come and enjoy an evening with all the thrills and spills of the turf, plus a fish and chip supper. Doors open at 7.00pm and there will be the usual licensed bar.
Tickets are £6.00 (14 years and under £4.00) – if you haven’t already got yours, please phone Jane Arblaster on 01327-361200 before noon tomorrow (Friday).
