The son of James and Susannah JONES, Ezra was baptised at Preston Capes on 8 Jan 1826. He became a farm labourer and was married twice: firstly to Sarah CAVE at Maidford on 11 Feb 1847 and after her death to Harriett BAILEY by banns at Preston Capes on 20 Oct 1856. After Harriett died in 1906, Ezra moved to Maidford where he died at the age of 87. He was buried in the churchyard at Preston Capes on 26 Oct 1913.
