Village Quiz

Welcome to the Village Quiz page. As we’re all isolating, the quiz will take place remotely with people participating via Zoom. For details of how to join in, contact Sylvia.

Here’s how it will all work:

To take part, you need to form a team. The team can simply be the people currently in your household, or it can be a “virtual team” made up of several groups of people. If you’re forming a virtual team, the team members can communicate via any means available – FaceTime, WhatsApp, email, Skype, telephone – whatever works for you. Who can you invite to join your team? Anybody who might reasonably have been expected to turn up in person for a more traditional version of the quiz are certainly welcome. If you have some close friends or family who are stuck out there, feeling isolated, then we’re happy to let them in to the party too. Teams are limited to six people. We could stretch to seven at a push, but if you make it as far as eight, you should split into two teams of four.

There is an email address set up for the duration of the quiz – quiz@prestoncapes.org.uk. Before the quiz starts, please send an email with your team name and who is taking part in your team. This will allow us to make sure we have answers from all the teams, and also make it easier to keep track of who is collaborating with who. Each team should nominate a member who is responsible for sending emails.

The quiz will run pretty much as a standard Village Hall quiz, but with fewer rounds. There will be five rounds of ten questions. There will also be a picture round which will be uploaded to this page at around 7:30pm. There will be no break in the middle, but the shorter format means that you should have time to hang around and chat afterwards while the marking takes place.

Answers should be emailed to the above address. The winners will be announced at the end of the evening. If we don’t receive your answers, we can’t score them, so please pay attention during the evening regarding when to send your answers in.

Once you join the Zoom meeting, you will be able to see and talk to all of the other participants. Feel free to chat to everybody whilst we are getting set up and afterwards. Once the quiz starts, we recommend that you mute your microphone in the Zoom app so that you don’t broadcast your discussions to the rest of the teams. If you need to ask a question, or to ask for something to be repeated, just unmute your microphone while you speak. Remember to mute again once you’re finished.

Remember, this is just for fun. We can’t stop you Googling answers, we can only rely on your honesty, so please don’t cheat. Enter into the spirit of the event and participate just as you would if you were in a crowded village hall.
